How patients opt in to SMS

At Sergonomics, every patient who receives text messages from us has signed a paper consent form in person, in the surgeon's office, during their pre-operative visit. We do not collect mobile numbers through web forms, third-party lists, or any digital channel. Consent is always explicit, written, and witnessed.

The consent process

  1. Pre-operative office visit. The patient meets with their surgeon to plan their procedure. SMS enrollment is offered as an optional service to support their surgical journey.
  2. Consent form review. The surgeon or clinical staff walks the patient through the SMS Consent Form, explaining what messages they will receive, how often, and how to opt out at any time.
  3. Patient signs the paper form. The patient writes their mobile number, signs, and dates the form. The form is countersigned by the clinician and retained in the patient's medical record.
  4. Mobile number is entered into Surgical Intercom. Office staff manually enter the patient's mobile number into the Sergonomics platform. No bulk imports, no purchased lists.
  5. Patient receives a confirmation SMS. Within minutes of enrollment, the patient receives a welcome message confirming their enrollment, the message frequency, and the keywords to manage their subscription (HELP, STOP).
