Surgical Intercom
A perioperative coordination platform that keeps total joint patients informed, ready, and on track — using simple text messages from their surgeon.
What it does
When a patient is scheduled for total hip or total knee replacement, Surgical Intercom turns the standard pre-op and post-op pathway into a timeline of automatic, well-timed SMS check-ins:
- Preoperative phase. Prep reminders, medication stop-dates, anesthesia clearance status, equipment delivery confirmations.
- Day of surgery. Arrival instructions, NPO confirmation, expected timing.
- Postoperative phase. Wound care reminders, milestone check-ins (PT, weight-bearing, follow-up appointments), red-flag symptom screens.
Every message is reviewed and authored under the supervision of the patient's surgeon. Patients reply, ask questions, and acknowledge receipt directly by text. The surgical office sees the full conversation in one dashboard.
Who it's for
- Orthopedic surgeons and surgical practices performing total hip or total knee replacement.
- Patients who have been scheduled for surgery and have provided written consent to receive SMS communication.
What it is not
- It is not an emergency line. Patients with urgent or life-threatening symptoms are instructed to call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
- It is not a marketing or promotional channel. Surgical Intercom does not send advertising messages to any user.
How patients opt in
Consent is collected on paper at the surgery scheduling visit. The patient signs an intake form authorizing Sergonomics LLC to send text messages related to their surgical episode of care. A copy of the consent form is available to carrier reviewers on request.
Status
Surgical Intercom is currently in private pilot with a single orthopedic surgical practice. Wider availability is pending Twilio compliance approval.
